2013 marks the 25th
anniversary of Johan de Meij’s monumental Symphony No. 1, The Lord of the
Rings – one of the most popular wind band works ever written, and one that
predated the movie score by decades. In honor of the occasion, ASB will perform
the complete symphony. The narrator will be Luis Muñoz, Drama Director of the
University Interscholastic League.
Other works celebrating the Earth,
Wind, and Fire theme will include Frank Ticheli’s bacchanalian “Vesuvius”
and Russell Peck’s humorous “Cave of the Winds.”
